Meet the Team

  • Christine - Care Companion

Christine is a retired RN and practiced in a variety of settings for 40+ years. Having an interest in people led her to the nursing profession but as my career progressed, she seemed to get further and further from what drew her to it. Now as a companion, she is delighted to have the time to devote to just one person.

Christine loves to travel, has lived overseas, and enjoys meeting people of all cultures. This has led her to speaking passable French and now she is practicing Italian ‘for fun;. Having a few words in other languages seems to come in handy and helps her relate to others. She notices that especially if a client’s mother tongue is becoming more comforting than English in their later years.

She has two adult daughters, one living in Calgary, and one in Regina with her husband and a grandbaby and they get to see each other several times a year.

She has enjoyed coming on board ‘Off Our Rockers’ and especially working with Shannon, Jill and all the wonderful clients.

  • Leanna - Care Companion

Leanna was born here in Calgary Alberta with her parents and two older sisters. She has three nieces and two nephews whom she adores. Leanna currently lives with her partner and two pups, Sadie and Lexi!

In her spare time she enjoys volunteering, playing cards and board games, going for walk with her dogs, indulging in new flavors of ice cream, building things (i.e. Ikea furniture), gardening, and adventuring to the mountains any chance she gets.

Leanna is currently a student attending Mount Royal University studying under the department of Health and Physical Education. After the completion of her undergraduate degree, her dream is to pursue medicine as she possesses a zealous passion for helping others and is motivated to make a positive difference.

For as long as Leanna can remember, she has held a great love and adoration for the older population. She carries a notable amount of hands-on experience through previous volunteer experience with LINKages and Alberta Health Services. She greatly looks forward to the opportunity of smiling and spending quality time with you or your loved one!

  • Janet - Care Companion

Janet’s passion is connecting with others, including those who are in the twilight of their lives.

Her past travels and experience living abroad have all contributed to her love of various cultures and traditions, which she taps into when making connections within the community.

Apart from her regular visits to Off Our Rockers clients, Janet operates her own company as an End of Life Doula as well as volunteers for Alberta Health Services and a hospice in Calgary. Janet’s motto is, “Compassion in Action”.

  • Jonie - Care Companion

Jonie is a born and raised Calgarian. She is guardian to two cats and a border collie, who has some disabilities but that doesn’t slow him down! In her free time, Jonie likes to go for walks, do some crafting and yoga.

Most of her experience comes from working within a hospice. She really enjoys connecting with people and finding out what makes each person unique.

  • Joyce - Care Companion

Joyce is originally from Scotland, having moved to Nova Scotia in 2007 then to Calgary in 2016. She has been married for over 30 years and has two sons and a granddaughter living back in Atlantic Canada.

For the last 14 years Joyce has been very happy to support seniors and adults with developmental disabilities both in the community and in a supported living environment.

In her downtime she enjoys reading, dabbling in various crafts, theatre, cultural events and spending time outdoors, exploring our Provincial and National Parks.

  • Teresa - Care Companion

Teresa was born in Calgary and has lived here all her life.

Along with her education in rehabilitation, Teresa has vast experience working closely with supports in Alberta for clients and their families, and prides herself on her ability to connect and develop strong relationships.

She is a grandmother to two boys and has two adult children.

In her free time, she and her husband love to travel. She enjoys reading, cooking, cycling, hiking, yoga and spending time with family and friends.

  • Wendy - Care Companion

Wendy has been a caregiver/companion for 25+ years. Being a caregiver is something she is very passionate about. To make someone's day a little brighter, a little easier, a little better is what it is all about for her.

When not at work, Wendy can be found spending time with her family and friends. Sometimes that will include cheering on the Calgary Flames or the Saskatchewan Roughriders, watching a movie, (a good horror is always fun) hiking, camping, baking, but most importantly, we are almost always laughing, (except maybe when we are watching the horror movie!).

She is also an avid reader and enjoys dancing, walking and animals. One of her favourite places is the off leash dog park at the end of Southland Drive. Watching the dogs chase the sticks into the river and seeing how much fun they are having puts a huge smile on my face!

  • Marla - Human Resources & Payroll

Marla has a background in human resources and payroll; using the skills and expertise her 20 years has afforded she is very happy providing advice to managers and customer service to employees.

Her travels have taken her around the world where she has been able to practice her hobbies of writing and photography. Travelling abroad, experiencing new cultures, and viewing the beautiful sights has led to a greater appreciation for the beauty of her home province of Alberta.

Marla is the guardian to her two dogs Pixie and Penny (85lb and 65lb lap dogs) and most of her free time is spent wrangling her hounds. She also has personal experience in being a caregiver to her mom, a stroke survivor.
